Effective Facilitation Skill

This course provides participants, who are either new to facilitation or have to facilitate as part of their role within HH Group, with an opportunity to benchmark their experiences against best practice.

COURSE OVERVIEW​

It will create the opportunity to raise issues and problems experienced, identify solutions and options, and formalise the knowledge of the processes and skills associated with facilitation, with the organisation in mind.

Hence, a high level of commitment is required from participants, as the course will create varied opportunities for the techniques discussed to be practiced, while highlighting on each aspect of facilitation as it impacts on the organisation.

INDIVIDUAL OUTCOMES

At the end of this course, participants should be able to;

  • Understand, apply and practise facilitation techniques
  • Understand the role of the facilitator and how to maintain neutrality while facilitating
  • Develop strategies for handling hecklers, bullies and other disruptive participants
  • Improve key critical thinking skills, including active listening and questioning.
  • Use common process tools to make meetings easier and more productive.
  • Utilize virtual collaboration tools eg. Zoom, Microsoft Teams to drive learning
COURSE CONTENTS

Module 1: Facilitation basics – The role and responsibilities of the facilitator and key skills, Balancing content and process, Calculating the value of effective facilitation
Module 2: Planning for success – Identifying goals, outcomes and deliverables, Effective documentation, Selecting the correct people, Encouraging attendance, Pre-positioning participants
Module 3: Active facilitation – Generating robust discussion, Intervening gracefully, Reaching consensus, Making informed decisions,  Managing conflict constructively
Module 4: Follow through - Action planning, Generating accountability, Creative techniques for building motivation and momentum
